Danberry Celebrates 50 Years!

The Danberry Co., Realtors celebrates its 50^th anniversary.

Toledo City Councilman and Danberry Realtor Rob Ludeman presents a Resolution recognizing Danberry for 50 years of service to co-owners Lynn Fruth and Dick Baker

On Thursday, February 2, 2012, The Danberry Co., Realtors celebrated its 50^th anniversary during its annual meeting. During the meeting, Danberry’s President, Dick Baker, reminisced on the birth of Danberry in 1962 and how it has grown through the years. Danberry was recognized by the members of the House or Representatives of the 129^th Assembly of Ohio for this milestone quoting “Since its establishment by Danberry Insurance Company in 1962, the office has earned gratitude and appreciation of many satisfied clients.”

The meeting concluded with the most anticipated part, the awards ceremony.

Danberry’s Winter Photo Contest Winners

Following a successful fall contest, The Danberry Co., Realtors, launched a second effort to build our online library of seasonal photography from throughout the beautiful Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan region. Two of our REALTORS® especially distinguished themselves with their entries, as Mike Guess walked off with the top 3 prize winners, and all of Cecelia Richardson’s shots gained honorable mention.

Little did we know when the early part of our winter provided so little white stuff that we would likely set a new snowfall record for the month of February! The natural beauty of our parks and waterways were the most common backdrop for most of these shots. Hello Winter!

After a season of winter storms missing the Toledo, Ohio metropolitan area while everyone else got pounded, we finally got a good dose of the white stuff. Add to that schools cancelling classes and you have a recipe for winter fun for kids! This is a perfect time to re-discover one of our region’s greatest assets, our Metroparks - http://www.metroparkstoledo.com/metro/.

For sledding enthusiasts, Pearson Park in Oregon, Ohio, has a hill, and many have not yet discovered the new sledding hill in the Silver Lake area of Side Cut Park in Maumee, Ohio, complete with a fireplace for warming up. Danberry’s 2010 Fall Photo Contest Winners – we uncovered some GREAT talent!

Terrific photography was submitted by Danberry agents for the first of our quarterly photo contests. We assembled a judging panel consisting of one manager (Darla Fry), one staff person (Brenda Padilla) and one agent (Tedd Goldblatt). Future contests will be judged by similar groups from other offices.Our grand prize winner. . . (drum roll). . . was Mike Guess who also had 2 honorable mention (HM) entries! Second place was Melissa Utterback who also had 2 more HM’s, and Rick Popiolek tied with himself for 3^rd while also submitting an HM!

Danberry Treasure Chest Charity Auction Results…

2010 Danberry Treasure Chest Auction

…kind of. Money is still coming in and being counted, but we can confidently say that we raised over $40,000 at this year’s Danberry Treasure Chest Dinner Auction for Charity.

The event was held October 14 at the Hilton Garden Inn at Levis Commons and was emceed by Jerry Anderson of Channel 11. Both a silent auction and a live auction were held. Jack Amlin served as the auctioneer and helped drive bids up to make this year’s live auction one of our most entertaining and successful ever!

We also hosted an Ambassador Family who came in and told their story of how the fund saved them from losing their house during a difficult pregnancy which put the mother on bed rest and unable to work for over 6 months.

The Danberry Treasure Chest is an emergency assistance fund set up at The Toledo Children’s Hospital benefitting families struggling with finances while their child struggles with a serious illness. Funds are administered through The Toledo Community Foundation and used for things such as back utilities, house payments, car repairs, etc. so parents can spend time with their seriously ill children in the hospital.

National Flood Insurance Program Extended.

This means nothing to some Toledo, Ohio, homeowners, but everything to others. The National Flood Insurance Program was due to expire Thursday, but Congress finally acted to extend it one year, until September 30, 2011. The National Association of Realtors was very much involved in getting this accomplished. Had it not been extended, it could have caused major disruptions for Realtors as well as home sellers and buyers negotiating on properties that are included in flood plain maps. Very simply, mortgage lenders will not loan on those properties without flood insurance.

What does this mean to Toledo real estate? Essentially business as usual, however some worries have been washed away (for a year). We may not be in the path of floods like some areas of the country, but don’t think that it can’t happen here. For flood hazard information in Lucas County, information is available through the Engineer’s Office:

Danberry recognized by state for promotion and advertising!

The Ohio Association of Realtors recently held their annual Promotion and Advertising Contest for brokers across the state. Not only did Danberry place, we placed five times!

Our website, www.danberry.com, won the Award of Excellence in the Large Firm category:

The other two categories we entered were Office Interior Photos and Office Exterior Photos. Danberry entered the offices at Levis Commons and Briarfield in each category and took 1st and 2nd place in each category!

Ohio School System “Report Cards”

We’re not judging here, just reporting what the state recently released about school system ratings within the Toledo Real Estate market area. Three systems in our market area (Ohio only) rated “Excellent With Distinction”: Ottawa Hills and Lake repeated, while Springfield Local moved up to the highest category. Moving down one notch from the highest rating were Anthony Wayne, Sylvania and Perrysburg. For details, click here. Congratulations to our area schools for all of your efforts!

Great recognition for a Toledo jewel! TMA voted “America’s Favorite Art Museum”!

Sometimes we take things for granted, perhaps it’s human nature. But it became clear how much people throughout this region (perhaps throughout the world) appreciate The Toledo Museum of Art http://www.toledomuseum.org/ as we blew away the competition in voting for “America’s Favorite”. In a “March Madness” format, 64 of the nation’s finest museums were paired up in head to head competitions, and TMA won the crown in grand fashion.

Art Info’s website http://blogs.artinfo.com/modernartnotes/ has the details (see their August 30^th post), including sour grapes expressed by a number of New York residents who can’t seem to imagine such a jewel hidden in the Midwest. (Perhaps the same guys who thought we were still fighting Indians in Ohio when I went to school in NY decades ago!).
